About Me

ELIZABETH DUNCAN MEYER: Artist, printmaker, & sculptor

Elizabeth’s work is influenced by themes of international culture and by the varied and vivid colours she encounters.

Her studio is in London. Having studied painting at Central School of Art in London from 1960 to 1963, Elizabeth moved to Paris in 1979 to learn print-making at the Ecole des Beaux Arts and at the Goetz and Hayter studios.

She then set up as a print-maker, exhibiting occasionally at the Salon d'Automne. In 1987 she returned to England where she exhibited regularly in one man or group shows in a number of top London galleries.

Elizabeth has long had experience working with carving wood and stone. She expanded her techniques whilst studying at The Heatherly School of Art earning a diploma and has since produced a number of hand carved sculptures in a variety of materials including clay. Having spent many summers in Portland working with the Portland Trust, Elizabeth’s knowledge in carving techniques is expansive.

As Elizabeth’s work developed, she gained an interest in ceramics. Though less physically demanding than her sculpture work, Elizabeth found her ceramic work to be challenging yet rewarding exclusively working with her hands. Being particularly inspired by Picasso, Elizabeth’s ceramic work is uniquely colourful and decorative.

Elizabeth’s work remains subtle and at a times mystical, interwoven with images reflecting aspects of her soul.

Elizabeth has exhibited her work at the Waterton Gallery in Fulham in June 2021.  Alongside working with prints, she is working mostly on canvas with acrylic and watercolour and enjoys the freedom to express her feelings through thick and thin layers of paint. Elizabeth is also working with mixed media and oil using a palette knife.

The most recent small to medium sized paintings are of North Brittany near St. Malo. They are centred on the huge golden beaches of sand and sailing.”
